About workshop

We are all neuro-diverse and our differences can be exacerbated when they are not understood by others. It’s easy to for us to label one another. We can also get into difficulties when we don’t understand our own differences and when we label ourselves.

This workshop is about uncovering your own patterns, processing and preferences and comparing and contrasting them with those of your peers. It is about creating the space for attention, insights and understanding our idiosyncrasies.

Clean questions — and generating our own metaphors and models for how we like to work — act as potential antidotes to being shamed or humiliated by others or by ourselves. A clean approach allows us to connect directly with our own experience which in turn protects us from the limitations of labels.

During this 3,5 hrs workshop you will get ideas how we can learn about our areas of flexibility and inflexibility — and how we can advocate unapologetically for your needs. You’ll also learn how to make reasonable adjustments for others.

During this workshop we will touch such areas:

  • How you process single words
  • Resourceful states and states, which are opposite to resourceful ones
  • What happens to you when not getting what you want and what might be a strategy to handle that

Throughout we will be interested in how we are responding to the differences across the group and developing skills for advocating for our requirements while also being mindful of our responsibilities towards one another.

From understanding yourself and others we can lead into a discussion on balancing rights, requirements and responsibilities to others.

This is also an entry-level workshop for those who are willing to find better ways to connect with self and others as well as finding ways to be together as group or team — a new way for people to learn about one another in groups, enabling them to move away from contempt and competition and towards curiosity and collaboration.

Systemic Modelling is the brainchild of Caitlin Walker, author of From Contempt to Curiosity. When a few clean questions led her to a greater understanding of herself and a dramatic shift in her life, she decided to adapt the one-to-one therapeutic method developed by clinical psychologist David Grove to create a robust methodology that would work for groups and organisations.

Clean Language was devised by David Grove to enable people to explore their own and others’ perceptions. Rather than assume we know what someone means when they use a particular word, gesture or intonation, we can use clean questions to enquire into their experience. In a therapeutic context, David used clean questions to help people to get in touch with their unconscious metaphors and ingrained patterns underpinning their everyday experiences — and to be able to change these at a deep level.

Caitlin recognised that the information that emerges when people are asked clean questions will often be new – not just to the listener, but to the person who’s experience it is. In a group situation, everyone gets to know that information. This in turn can help people to:

  • Be more curious, deeply listen to one another, and work together in a respectful way
  • Learn about one another’s strengths and weaknesses
  • Sort out disagreements or conflicts by increasing their understanding of different perspectives
  • Clarify their thinking
  • Reveal assumptions so that conversations are held at a level everyone can understand
  • Discover hidden values
  • Build shared models of understanding

Caitlin will facilitate the group cleanly, with curiosity, respect and gentle humour. The aim is for the group to generate their own insights, understanding and inspiration.
